The ban is highly supported by the Australian Medical Association. “Australia has been at the forefront of the world’s efforts to reduce smoking rates and the health problems they cause, so the government’s decision to act decisively to stop e-cigarettes contributing to the further spread of the problem is broadly welcomed,” said Australian Medical Association President Steve Robson.

However, it is worth noting that e-cigarettes are indeed a product that can assist some smokers who want to quit to transition to smoking cessation. As a result, the government has also announced a plan to allow doctors and nurses to prescribe e-cigarettes to patients from January 1 next year, where clinically applicable. This decision is intended to balance the public health benefits with the needs of individuals.
